The downside is that I'm once again tied to the bike, but losing any functionality of my iPhone while riding is not appealing to me. Not a big deal if you are making it yourself, but I've never seen something in that configuration for sale. As far as I know, no one makes something like this because I would need one male input, one female input, and then a female output. That should allow me to adjust the volume independently of the audio coming from the SENA. Then I could run a single audio cable from the radar detector audio out to the 2nd input of the mixer. Then put it in-line between the SENA and my earbuds. Since I use the earbud mount for my SENA, I was considering this.I'm planning to make a simple audio mixer with two inputs and one output.
Mine has paid for itself many times over. Also, I can't say enough about the Valentine. If I were you, I'd wait for v4 before spending any money, just to make sure it does what you want. Most aftermarket dongles use A2DP (stereo). If v4 does what it claims to do, you could indeed pair your phone to the SMH10 and run a dongle for the V1, but you would have to be sure it was using only HFP. But my guess is your streaming music will override the MP3 input, leaving you unprotected. I don't do music while riding, so can't help with that. This is acceptable but not optimal and as I mentioned, I'm really hoping firmware v4 fixes this and gets rid of that damn wire. Or if a radar alert is underway, the GPS can interrupt it. In other words, if the GPS is talking, I don't get any radar alert. My experience with the MP3 input on the back of the SMH10 is that it gets lower priority than my zumo 660 paired via BT.
